How do I get rid of the automatic "search conduit" search-engine I seem to have downloaded and installed?

Greetings,

I am a complete technophobe, so apologies if this question is poorly-worded, I am not au fait with computer technie jargon.

My question is this. I use Google Chrome and before somehow accidentally downloading and installing a search engine I have never heard of – namely "Search Conduit", I used to type queries in the taskbar (I think that is the right word- I am referring to that slot type thing on your screen where you type the URL) and automatically the search would be done by Google. So, for example, if I typed in "History of Malta", I would get hits from Google automatically. Now, with my accidental download, I get hits from Search Conduit. Advice on how I can rectify this so that Google is my default search engine would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your answers.
